Fact Sheet on Shutdown of Konza Prairie Ozone Monitor

Burning2-4web1. The Konza Prairie Monitor. Installed in 2002, is described at this site:

It is not part of the network of air quality monitors run by state agencies for the usual regulatory purposes. It is operated by USEPA directly as part of CASTNET.  The purpose of CASTNET is described at this link:

2. 8-hour Avg. Ozone values exceeding the current NAAQS of 75 parts per billion since 2002:

2002 – 6         2008 – 3

2003 – 8        2009 – 0

2004 – 0         2010 – 2

2005 – 7         2011 – 3

2006 – 6         2012 – 8

2007 – 0         Total – 43

Twenty-nine of these exceedances occurred outside the April burning season. In 2012 all eight exceedances occurred during the summer and outside the burning season.
