Sierra Club Joins Friends of Kaw on Float Trip

On Saturday, June 23, 29 Sierrans from the Kanza Group (Kansas City area) and the Topeka Group joined Laura Calwell, Riverkeeper withFriends of the Kaw, for an enjoyable float trip on the Kansas River from the De Soto ramp to Cedar Creek – approximately six miles.  The forecast was for hot and windy conditions, but the morning turned out to be cool and cloudy.  We stopped at noon on a nice sand bar, built a fire and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, compliments of Laura and Friends.

Friends of the Kaw (FOK) is a nonprofit, grassroots environmental organization whose mission is to protect and preserve the Kaw for all generations. Check out their web site at http://www.kansasriver.org

If you missed this trip, more are planned during the summer by FOK. Check future trips out at http://www.kansasriver.org/river-access
