The People’s Climate March in Kansas City nimbly reacted to the weather forecast for April 29th and moved the outdoor event to Unity Temple on the Plaza, a wise choice! Despite the wind and rain, we had a pre-rally march of about 200 hardy souls who enthusiastically declared their support for action on Climate, Justice, and Jobs. You can see photos here!
We estimated that 1,000 people filled Unity Temple to experience speakers, singers, a spoken word artist, and Haskell Indian Nations dancers. It was the first time we have sponsored an event with messages aimed at tying together the climate and social justice movements.
The response to our rally was tremendous! Check out the Kansas City Star’s coverage here.
The organizing committee included experienced activists and newly-engaged young people who are already attracting more young people to the movement.
This event – the biggest of its kind in our area – was possible due to your donations. It brought important visibility to Sierra Club and its work. Thank you on behalf of the Kanza Group for your support of our participation in broad-based, Kansas City metro-wide activism!
