Wildflower Walk

WichitaStateUniversityFieldState near Viola, Kansas hosted Southwind members for a rainy day plant identification walk on the bank of the NinnescahRiver.  Professor Don Disler and Art Youngman answered questions and named plants for the group.  Bobbie Keltner was surprised that the area had lost an estimated 42 inches of top soil.  Before settlement, the land had 56 inches of top soil.  I guess we have about 14 inches left.   Thanks to Carolyn and Roger Benefiel, Bobbie Keltner, Bobbie Hulbert, Bill Cather and Yvonne Cather whom braved the rain and joined us for this walk.
